Whereas Batman: The Telltale Series and Batman: The Enemy Within have played fast and loose with the Batman mythos, Guardians seems to be striving to hit more or less the same beats as its live-action film counterparts.

Telltale has so far played it safe with Guardians of the Galaxy. Screen Rant’s Andrew Dyce found Episode 1 to be lacking, saying “players of differing walks of life and moral compasses are likely to feel that they played the exact same experience– no, the exact same story as anyone else.” Critical reviews for the first three episodes of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy have been mixed, scoring 70, 72, and 72 overall on Metacritic, respectively. Safety, however, may ultimately come at a terrible cost. As the cave's hidden threats creep closer, Star-Lord must hold his crew together if he hopes to keep everyone safe. But this growing tension is temporarily sidelined by a more pressing problem: escaping a dark and treacherous cavern before they all get eaten alive. With the fate of the Eternity Forge decided, the Guardians are left more bitterly divided than ever.
